This initiative launches on the back of River Network’s other regional projects, which have achieved huge reductions in local crime and anti-social behaviour. By embedding holistic community involvement and development into the core housing model, the charity has successfully turned vulnerable spaces into areas of neighbourhood growth and social renewal. The Fairfield Road project expands this proven blueprint, utilising localised, community-driven care to foster safety and integration for both the residents and the wider town.
Driving Regional Alignment
The launch comes at a critical moment for Derbyshire Norths housing landscape. On 16 July 2026, the government approved a historic Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) that will merge High Peak Borough Council, Derbyshire Dales District Council, and three neighbouring authorities into a unified Derbyshire North unitary council by April 2028.
This opening also follows the government’s 19 August 2026 announcement of a £442 million national homelessness package, which injected £3.6 million immediately into local Derbyshire councils. By deploying an agile, small-scale housing model at 17 Fairfield Road, River Network is actively demonstrating how local providers can deliver bureaucratic efficiency and cut administrative delays ahead of the region’s mandatory 2027 Supported Housing Strategy framework duties.
