conorA rap duo who recently featured on BBC Radio 1 are performing a free one-off gig for young people in Sheffield.

Post Collide, formed by friends Conor Merrison, 23, and Bethany Holland, 20, will star in an evening show in Kelham Island on August 27.

The pair, who launched their group while studying, will then repeat the gig during fresher’s week for new students on September 24.

They said that they wanted the shows to be an inspiration for young people to ‘reach their full potential’.

Conor graduated from Sheffield Hallam and now runs a recording studio while also helping disadvantaged youths.

He said: ‘We’re really looking forward to performing these special shows for youngsters in the city.

‘It’s a chance for us to give something back and to say to young people, ”look, this is what you can achieve”.

‘The evenings are a chance for them to party, have fun and eat good food, but also to broaden their horizons and become more involved with music.’

Conor and Bethany first met at their local church in 2007 and struck up a friendship over their love of music.

They formed the R&B act Post Collide in 2014 While Bethany was taking her A-Levels and Connor working on his degree,

The duo released an E.P. ‘The Long Weekend’ in January 2015, have performed at festivals around the UK and featured on Radio 1’s The Charlie Sloth show.

Bethany, who is studying a BA (Hons) in Music Production at Futureworks in Manchester, said: ‘University can be daunting when you just arrive, far from home.

‘We hope that our show can be an evening of fun for them, a chance to meet new people and hear some great music.’

Artful Mark, whilst finalising releasing his long awaited Album, says ‘ Post Collides music is so current & great ‘ Artful may be surprise guesting at event juggling current demands & commitments. He’s also  looking into a future collaborate/ Remix.

Mark Hill made his name as one half of UK Garage outfit, Artful Dodger. Their music struck a chord with garage fans thanks to its captivating melodies and excellent vocals, thanks to Craig David and numerous other vocalists, including Robbie Craig and Romina Johnson. There was a professionalism and depth to the music that it gave it huge crossover appeal and as a result Artful Dodger notched up two No.2s in the UK charts. Mark and his partner in crime Pete Devereux became superstars & Mark has 4 Ivor Novello Awards!  However, UK Garage’s influence has permeated through into the music of many young producers who are making it big at the moment, like Post Colide and the sound has been back on the rise for the last couple of years. Though I’d hesitate at calling it a resurgence, there is without a doubt plenty of UK Garage-inspired music around and it’s great to see such an accessible form of party music back in many DJ’s sets. Mark Hill is back in the studio making new music on his own as ‘Artful’. Look out for his new Album soon.

The shows are being organised by local church City Life International  Pastor Dr Jim Masters as part of their Festival of Life, a series of events celebrating the regeneration of Kelham Island.

Those watching the gig at The City Life Auditorium  can also try free dishes supplied by local restaurants.

Event Organiser Terry Eckersley, an International  music publisher, producer, writer and now Minister , said: ‘It’s great that Post Collide are involved. They’re a young vibrant group with a great sound.

‘Post Collide have gone from strength to strength, and they are an inspiration to the young people of Sheffield and to students who embarking on their new life.’
